Students, staff and parents at Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College were today celebrating outstanding GCSE results, placing the school as the one of the highest achieving in the region.

95% of students achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* to C with English and Maths, whilst 74% achieved the English Baccalaureate.

The English Baccalaureate has been introduced by the Government to recognise achievement in a range of academic and challenging subjects. It is awarded to students who achieve A*-C in each of English, Maths, two Sciences, a modern language and History or Geography. Nationally, fewer than 25% of students achieve the English Baccalaureate.

Aasiyah Rokad and Bushra Islam, both of whom achieved 12A* grades (and completed an AS level course at ‘A’ grade), said: ‘The results are fantastic. We are so grateful to our teachers for their amazing efforts and our parents for their support throughout our time at Tauheedul. It’s great to see the hard work of all of our friends rewarded with excellent grades.’

Principal, (Mufti) Hamid Patel, said: ‘Our students have once again achieved outstanding results. Their sacrifice, and that of all of our staff, has been just phenomenal.’

The GCSE results come just a week after the school achieved its best ever A level results – with 79% of students leaving Tauheedul Sixth Form with 3A*-Cs at A level.

The academic achievements are part of several accolades the school has received over the past 12 months.

In March 2014, the school was given an ‘outstanding’ rating by Ofsted inspectors, the third time in a row that the school has received the highest accolade. In their inspection report, Ofsted praised ‘exceptional progress’ and ‘outstanding leadership’ at the school.

In January 2014, the Government confirmed that Tauheedul is the best school in the country for achievement by students with low prior achievement at primary school and students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

In September 2013, a group of leading academics commissioned by Trinity Mirror’s Data Unit ranked Tauheedul as the highest amongst over 3000 state-funded schools. Unlike Government league tables which focus on GCSE results, the ranking by Trinity Mirror provided a ‘comprehensive view’ based on 20 official government indicators – taking into account everything from the expected levels of achievement, quality of teaching, levels of truancy, progression to jobs and university as well as behaviour.
