In exploring the power of words through descriptive writing, persuasive writing, poetry, the study of spoken language and the development of presentation skills, students at TIGHS are offered a rich programme of English study.
Students are taken through literary journeys capturing thoughts, feelings and emotions as they use stylistic devices and vocabulary impact to describe personal experiences. In assessing linguistic development and evolution, contrasting attitudes, approaches and prejudices suurounding accent, the history of the English language is thoroughly examined.

The Brontë Award for Excellence in English
Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë were sisters and writers whose novels and poems have become classics. They are responsible for some of the greatest and best-loved works of English literature. They were educated, but impoverished and quietly fought the constraints of the time to become the most famous literary family.
