In exploring the power of words through descriptive writing, persuasive writing, poetry, the study of spoken language and the development of presentation skills, students at TIGHS are offered a rich programme of English study.
Students are taken through literary journeys capturing thoughts, feelings and emotions as they use stylistic devices and vocabulary impact to describe personal experiences. In assessing linguistic development and evolution, contrasting attitudes, approaches and prejudices suurounding accent, the history of the English language is thoroughly examined.

The Al-Khansa Award in English
Tumadir bint ‘Amr ibn al-Harth ibn al-Sharid al-Sulamiyah, better known as “Al-Khansa'” was a very famous Arab poet at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Al-Khansa’ is most famous for her poems written in mourning of her two brothers, Mu’awiya and Sakhr, who died at a young age. She is a poet said to be favoured by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
