Financial Support

To support students who are experiencing financial difficulties that make it harder for them to participate fully in their courses, we offer financial assistance.

The support is made up of two parts:

  • A ‘Bursary for Defined Vulnerable Groups’ of £1,200 a year – allocated to the most vulnerable young people.
  • Discretionary Support – which our 6th Form provides to students who need financial assistance with costs relating to their course.

Both the ‘Bursary for Defined Vulnerable Groups’ and ‘Discretionary Support’ are linked to a student’s attendance and behaviour during their study at our 6th Form.

Bursary for Defined Vulnerable Groups

Students may apply for a Bursary for Defined Vulnerable Groups – worth up to £1200 – as outlined below.

Criteria Support
  • A student in, or who has recently left, local authority care.
  • A student who receives Income Support or Universal Credit because they are financially supporting themselves.
  • A student who receives Disability Living Allowance (DLA) in their own name and either Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit.
  • A student who receives Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in their own name and either ESA or Universal Credit.
  • A bursary worth up to £1200.

Discretionary Support

The 6th Form offers discretionary support for students in the Sixth Form as outlined below.

Criteria Support
  • A student who was entitled to free school meals in year 11.
  • A student whose parents are currently claiming means-tested benefits [Income Support, Job Seeker’s Allowance, Child Tax Credit (where the annual gross income is no more than £16,190) or Universal Credit].
  • A student in Local Authority Care.
  • Free breakfast.
  • Free school meals, worth up to £2.50 per day.
  • Travel Bursary (worth up to £250 per year), dependent on how far you live from the 6th Form.
  • Free uniform.
  • Free books and trips (residential trips would be subsidised).

Students may request our Discretionary Support at any stage during their studies.  However, support cannot be back-dated.

For more information, including how to apply, please contact the school’s Business Support Manager.   Please also read our 16-19 Bursary Policy, available here.
